1 Month

Griffin is now 1 month old. He is quite the big boy now too. I took him to the pediatrician yesterday and his stats are:

weight: 11 lbs 7 oz (80th percentile)
length: 23 1/4 inches (90th percentile)
head circumference: 15.4 inches (60th percentile)

They actually had to recheck his length and head circumference because they were so different from birth. (birth stats...length-20 1/2 inches, hc-13 1/2 inches) Judging by this, I firmly believe he will be a tall boy. He is already long and lean, no rolls on this little guy. (At least not yet!)

When I was in the room with the nurse practitioner, I pulled out my long list of questions. One major question I had was about his neck. Tanner and I have noticed pretty much from day one that he prefers to tilt his head to one side all of the time. Over the last couple of weeks, he has really been favoring his right side. I have been working with him to stretch out his neck so that he will turn more to his left; however, he wasn't showing a lot of progress. When the nurse practitioner looked at it, she agreed and said that he has torticollis (stiff neck) and to continue to stretch it. (It totally breaks my heart to work on his stretches because he does not like them at all and just screams and screams!) Then she looked in his ears and found that he has an ear infection in BOTH ears! As his mom, my heart completely broke. I started thinking that I caused it and that it was all my fault! The practitioner informed me that it is possibly due to the torticollis or else he has acid reflux. Therefore he is on an antibiotic and hopefully it will clear up soon. I know Tanner and I noticed Sunday that he was very fussy, which is totally not like him. Then Tuesday night, he was up twice with a scream that would not stop. We knew something had to be wrong since he is typically so happy go lucky. Other than that, Griffin is doing well. Hopefully the ear infections will clear up and we will get our happy healthy little guy back.

As far as everything else goes, we are starting to get on a schedule. Since our second night home, Griffin has been sleeping in his crib, in his own room and now that I'm starting to figure out his schedule, he takes his naps in his crib too. While he's napping, I find myself carrying on like normal-kind of; cleaning bottles, picking up the house (mainly after the crazy dog), checking emails, doing Grif's laundry, and anything else that needs to get done. I actually told Tanner the other day that I felt like a "real wife" because I was so busy! Now, don't get me wrong or anything, occasionally I do nap with him. I'm definitely not a super mom!

Working on neck stretches during tummy time!

Progress...he turned his head all by himself to his non preferred side!

Almost 1 month old!

My how the time have flown by! Griffin will already be a month old this weekend and I can hardly believe it. Tanner and I are truly blessed with a wonderful baby and we are so in love with him.

A lot of people say that the newborn stage is so boring for the parents, but I love it! This is the best time to cuddle with my little "snuggle bug". I love to watch him. I try to figure out what he's thinking and dreaming about. He must be dreaming good things since he "smiles" and "laughs" during his sleep. I can't wait for him to start the real smiling thing.

Last Saturday, Tanner and I noticed his hematoma started to change a little bit. I noticed more of his cartridge rather than the squishy dome. Then, Sunday I couldn't believe it...it actually looked a lot better. It was barely noticeable and we could really feel the rim of cartridge. Yay, the doctors told us since it was so big, it would probably take 6 months for it to go down and almost 4 weeks later, his head looks like a normal head! It's still very soft, but that is to be expected. We go to the pediatrician next week for his 1 month visit so we'll see what they have to say.

Here is a picture of our little man from today. I can't believe how different he looks from his newborn pictures! I think he is starting to look a little like Tanner.

A couple days after we got home from the hospital, Tanner and I had our favorite photographer come to our house and photograph our favorite little guy. Here is the link to Rebecca's blog to view Griffin's session.
